Light This Candle
The Life and Times of Alan Shepard
BY Neal Thompson
The Book That Began My Love For Reading

This book is very important to me. Its pages cast wind in my ‘reading’ sails—and further—this book charted the waters which brought me to my current destination: self-proclaimed bibliophile. I am unable to precisely pinpoint a single story in Thompson’s book that made me fall in love with reading, but Light This Candle was my first book that I hung on every word. Moreover, for the first time I found myself excited to share the amazing aspects of the book (what Alan Shepard was accomplishing). Thus, I believe it is fair to say that the enlightenment I received from reading Light This Candle is the true genesis for Jack Reads Books. And, because of this book, I now have a portrait of Alan Shepard in my living room—a daily reminder to pursue my dreams. So, while this book review may stand as a (short) anomaly because I am only providing you insight with what this book did for me and nothing further, I can only hope that if you choose to read Light This Candle, it can (and will) set you down a path of loving what you read.
