Shoutout to my mother, Pam. After recommending this book to me and finding that I still was not reading it, she forced it upon me until I did. And I will be eternally grateful that she made me read Think Again. To summarize, Adam Grant—in my own words—is a humble beast. His platform is built on his love for learning and reciprocity: whatever he learns he hopes to then turn around and teach in a fun, easy to learn way. The basis of Think Again is, well, to think again before doing any action. The saying old habits die hard is so out. This process involves falling in love with the idea of being wrong; failing over and over to crystalize your thesis or hypothesis until it is constructed parallel to being an expert scientist. And even then, you will probably be wrong again, which entails restructuring your thought process even further.
This practice is premised behind the complete love of learning. If you dislike being wrong, your heels will only dig deeper into whatever subject is being contested, and instead of expanding knowledge, it will remain fixed in time and thus not bear any more fruit. For me, I found the sections discussing politics and difficult conversations vital for the election year we all experienced in 2024. Thanks to the major news networks, America appears more divided than ever. Grant breaks down why this is the case, along with remedies as to how we can dispel this elephant in the room. Further, as stated above, this book is about beginning a relationship with the idea of constantly learning, which is something I desire to constantly pursue. I hope that all readers can enjoy being wrong now and again and find themselves more motivated to question the ideology that their stance rests on—not necessarily to dissolve it, but to ensure it is grounded in fact instead of a bias or incorrect theory. Although Think Again was my first Grant book, I will be returning to his river of knowledge for more—I plan on reading Originals next.
